MARCO VIDAL VENETO
1650. VIDAL, Marco. Arca Vitalis, in qua pretiosiores theologiae Moralis Margaritae ex vastissimo, tum Theologico, tum Canonico Oceano diligenter collectae recluduntur. Seu inquisitiones theologicae morales casuum conscientiae, auctore R. P. D. Marco Vidal Veneto clerico regulari theatino, sacrae theologiae professore. Cum quatuor indicibus. Venise, Omnibenii Ferretti, 1650.

Acquaforte, 1648-1650 circa, firmata in basso a sinistra 'Av. ostade'. Etching, 1648 – 1650 circa, signed with the artist's name 'Av. ostade' at lower left. Third state, of four, with fine cross-hatchings on the sleeve at the level of the tankard. JONSTON, John
Frankfurt am Main, Matthias Merian, [1650] Due volumi legati in uno, bella legatura coeva in vitello marezzato, tipiche corrosioni dell'epoca, dorso a 6 nervi ornato in oro, piatti e bordi riquadrati e ornati in oro, cerniere rinforzate, pp.228, [VIII] 232 [IV], due frontespizi figurati e 142 (62+80) tavole fuori testo.

[Click Below for Full Description]

Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended westward to the Apuseni Mountains. The region of Transylvania is known for the scenic beauty of its Carpathian landscape and its rich history. It also contains major cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Bra_ov, Sibiu and Târgu Mure_. The Habsburgs acquired the territory shortly after the Battle of Vienna in 1683. In 1687, the rulers of Transylvania recognized the suzerainty of the Habsburg emperor Leopold I, and the region was officially attached to the Habsburg Empire. By 1541, the entire Balkan peninsula and most of Hungary, Moldavia, Wallachia, and Transylvania were under Ottoman suzerainty, preserving partial or full internal autonomy until the mid-19th century.( Transylvania until 1711). In 1600 it was ruled by the Wallachian prince Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazul), who was considered, later on, the precursor of modern Romania and became a point of reference for nationalists, as well as a catalyst for achieving a single Romanian state.Rumänien: By 1541, the entire Balkan peninsula and most of Hungary, Moldavia, Wallachia, and Transylvania were under Ottoman suzerainty, preserving partial or full internal autonomy until the mid-19th c … [Click Below for Full Description]

JANSSON, J.
Jansson, J., Amsterdam, 1650. Map. Hand colored engraving. Image measures 21" x 25." Mid-17th century, double page map of Egypt showing Cairo and the Nile river as it flows from the Mediterranean Sea. Oriented 90 degrees to the right, so that the Nile is horizontal, the notations for cities and population centers are more dense near Cairo and Jerusalem, and become more sparse the farther from the Mediterranean the Nile flows. Much of the Red Sea can be seen as well as part of Arabia. Wonderful depiction of the Pyramids is included in this well designed map. Jan Jansson was part of an influential family of map publishers from the Netherlands throughout the 17th century and beyond. They were based in Arnhem then in Amsterdam. They were printers, publishers and booksellers. Major publications were under the joint ownership of the Jansson heirs and their printing empire. This is a beautiful example of his work.

[Click Below for Full Description]
