Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended westward to the Apuseni Mountains. The region of Transylvania is known for the scenic beauty of its Carpathian landscape and its rich history. It also contains major cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Bra_ov, Sibiu and Târgu Mure_. JANSSON, J.
Jansson, J., Amsterdam, 1650. Map. Hand colored engraving. Image measures 21" x 25." Mid-17th century, double page map of Egypt showing Cairo and the Nile river as it flows from the Mediterranean Sea. Oriented 90 degrees to the right, so that the Nile is horizontal, the notations for cities and population centers are more dense near Cairo and Jerusalem, and become more sparse the farther from the Mediterranean the Nile flows. Much of the Red Sea can be seen as well as part of Arabia. Wonderful depiction of the Pyramids is included in this well designed map. Jan Jansson was part of an influential family of map publishers from the Netherlands throughout the 17th century and beyond. They were based in Arnhem then in Amsterdam. They were printers, publishers and booksellers. Major publications were under the joint ownership of the Jansson heirs and their printing empire. This is a beautiful example of his work.

[Click Below for Full Description]

Salvator ROSA (Napoli 1615 - Roma 1673)
Pair of etchings and drypoint, about 1650/60, signed on plate at the bottom right and left respectively. Only state. Beautiful proof, printed on contemporary laid paper without watermark, with narrow margins, in excellent condition. The two prints documenting the ability of Rosa to recreate a fairytale Hellenistic, where mythological gods are represented in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature.
