Dimensions: 400 by 510mm (15.75 by 20 inches). Rare map of the British Isles. Berey has closely copied Sanson separately issued map of 1640. Berey's imprint in the right-hand cartouche replaces that of Tavernier. Nicolas Berey (1608-1665) map publisher, colourist, and father-in-law of Jaillot. Although his original oeuvre is small he did copy numerous maps by the leading cartographers of the day, including Blaeu, Hondius, and Sanson. Shirley 584.

Willem Janszoon Blaeu [1571- 1668] had set up the business in Amsterdam 1596 following studies with the famous astonomer Tycho Brahe. In 1630 Willhem published his first atlas "Atlas Appendix", having published maritime cartography, books, charts and pilot guides for previous thirty years. Appointed Hydrographer of the V. O. C. ( United East India Company)in 1633 he died in 1638. leaving the company to his sons Joan and Cornelius Of Cornelius little is know; his name appearing on in the prefaces of books and atlases only until c1645. Dr Joan Blaeu [ 1596-1673] who had studied at Leiden took over the management of the business and established its fame. He was also appointed Hydrographer to the V. O. C. ( 1638), but his interests leant more to geography than maritime cartography. After the death of his father in June 1673, de Fer was so successful at improving the firm that, in 1690, he became the official geographer to Louis, Dauphin of France. With support from the Spanish and French Royal Families, de Fer also became official geographer for Philip V and Louis XIV, the kings of Spain and France, respectively. Because of this, his maps became Bourbon propaganda, endorsing French King Louis XIV.His business flourished, producing town plans, atlases, wall maps, and more than 600 sheet maps.He made maps of places in Europe and North America, including New Spain, places fortified by Vauban, the Low Countries, and the War of the Spanish Succession. The first volume was published in 1645 by Blaeu, simply as 'Poemata') (Condition: Vellum age-toned. Old name on the title. Faint and small waterstain on the blank upper margin of the first leaves, Faint waterstain in the lower margin) (Note: When he was one year old the Flemish parents of the Dutch polymath, poet, theologian and historian Caspar Barlaeus, 1584-1648, had to flee Antwerp for the 'Spanish fury'. 'They settled in Zaltbommel, where his father eventually would become head of the Latin school. Caspar studied theology and philosophy at the University of Leiden. After his study, he preached for 1.5 years in the village of Nieuwe-Tonge, before returning to Leiden in 1612 as an under-regent of a college. Fehlstelle, Fehlstelle a. V. m. Japanpapier fachmännisch geschlossen, stärkere Gbrsp. - Roth wurde 1646 als Sohn des Stadtpfarrers in Bissingen geboren (bis 1715). Nach der Lateinschule studierte er ab 1664 in Jena, wo er 1665 oder 1669 den Magistergrad erlangte und im Jahr 1673 zum Adjunctus der philosophischen Fakultät ernannt wurde. Während seines Aufenthaltes in Jena arbeitete er darüber hinaus als Hauslehrer, um seine finanzielle Situation aufzubessern. Ein Jahr später wechselte er als Professor der Geschichte an das Ulmer Gymnasium, wo er außerdem den Posten des Konrektors bekleidete. In den folgenden Jahren erhielt er Ernennungen zum "Professor philosophiae moralis" (1675) und "Professor logices" (1690), bis er schließlich 1691 den Rektorposten übernahm. Seine insgesamt 42 nachweisbaren Werke, die im Zeitraum zwischen 1668 und 1714 in deutscher und lateinischer Sprache veröffentlicht wurden, belegen seine umfangreichen Kenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Philosophie, Geographie und antiken Geschichte.
