John Taylor
[London: 1642. First edition, small 4to, pp. [8]; title-page woodcut; bound by Mackenzie in full olive morocco decorated in gilt, spine elaborately gilt, inner dentelles, marbled endpapers; joints rubbed, else very good. John Taylor, called "The Water Poet," was a waterman, collector of the wine fees for the Lieutenant of the Tower, and keeper of a public house at Oxford and Westminster. He wrote a vast number of pamphlets numbering some 138 on a variety of subjects which were first collected in 1630. Taylor was known for his eccentric exploits, one of which was sailing on the Thames in a boat made of brown paper. In this work the title-page contains an interesting woodcut which is from the block used for Taylor's "A Reply as true as Steele" (1641), reproduced in the catalogue of the Clawson Sale 1926. In this version the devil's horns were, however, removed from the block, so as to show him transformed into a Roundhead. Wise, Ashley Library, vol. 7, p. 92. [Attributes: First Edition]

Horace (auteur) ; Nicolas Poussin (artiste) ; Claude Mellan (graveur),
1642. Notre blog : https://librairie-trois-plumes.blogspot.fr/ Notre mail : benoit@troisplumes.fr Horace (auteur) ; Nicolas Poussin (artiste) ; Claude Mellan (graveur), Quinti Horatii Flacci Opera. Parisiis [Paris], Typographia Regia [Imprimerie Royale], 1642. In-folio (39.5*27.5cm), [4]-321p.

HORNIUS (HORN), Georgius.
Ad 1: Alden & Landis 652/111; Borba de Moraes, p. 413; Sabin 33014; ad 2: V.d. Linde, David Joris 242; STCN (7 copies). The first edition of a learned essay on the origins of the American Indians. It was a reply to Grotius who had argued in 1642 that the American Indians were descendants of Norsemen, Ethiopians and Chinese, basing his theory mainly on linguistic arguments. Hornius criticized Grotius's philological approach and placed the origins of the American peoples in Scythia, Phoenicia, Carthage and China. The work is bound with Blesdijk's famous biography of the Anabaptist leader David Joris, edited by Jacobus Revius. It remains the most important source for the life and teaching of David Joris.Fine copies. With minor surface defects in the vellum, but binding still very good.

Israel SILVESTRE
Acquaforte, 1642, firmata in lastra in basso. Molto rara. Etching, 1642, signed on lower plate. Beautiful work, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to platemark, perfectly executed repairs at the upper right center, otherwise in very good condition. Panoramic and uncommon view of the city, from the slopes of Mount Mario. The Basilica in the foreground has been depicted in detail, as is the view of the city, where many buildings can be identified. Silvestre was drawer and engraver; he was born in Nancy in 1621. Between 1638 and 1641 Silvestre travelled along Italy and there are many evidences of his presence in the Peninsula between 1643 and 165 … [Click Below for Full Description]
