London, Printed by R. Bishop, to be sold by Fr. Bowman in Oxford, 1636. 12mo. [1]f., [xxii]336pp. Third edition of E. M. Bolton's translation, first published in 1619. Engraved title showing a Roman centurion, and the four "ages of Rome" described in niches. Lacking final blank, otherwise internally fine, in early calf, ruled in blind. A few minor chips to extremities of covers.

      Sthlm, H. Käyser, 1636. 4:o. (4),116,(19) s. Titelbladet med typografiskt ramverk och Oxenstiernas vapen i träsnitt. Marmorerat pappbd från 1800-talets första hälft. Genomgående fuktfläckig och tämligen solkig i början. Gamla lagningar på s. (3), 3 och 6-7, den sista med viss textförlust. Titelbladet med handskriven dedikation till Andreas I. Bornaeus. Med Carl Jedvard Bondes formklippta exlibris. Från Ericsberg.. Collijn Sveriges bibliografi 1600-talet 670 och 947. Warmholtz Bibliotheca historica Sueo-Gothica 9183. Innehåller utom orationer, program etc. också tre föreläsningsförteckningar för perioden 1634-35, vilka tycks vara de äldsta tryckta från Uppsala universitet. Gabriel Gabrielsson Oxenstierna (1618-47) var rektor 1634. Andreas Jönsson Bornaeus (-1657) var huspredikant till Beata Oxenstierna på Herresäter i Östergötland från 1629, krigspräst i Stettin 1637 och kyrkoherde i Grebo från 1647. Beata Oxenstierna (1591-1652) var kusin med Gabriel Oxenstiernas far och hovmästarinna hos drottning Kristina 1639-47 efter att som ung varit kammarjungfru hos drottningens mamma. Beata, som i samtiden fick höga vitsord för sin tid vid hovet, gifte sig 1613 med Erik Ulfsparre (1577-1631)

Hardback, original calf with raised bands and highly ornamental gilt on spine and gilt ornament on cover edges, vignette title-page, pp. [viii], 576, [xix] - index, profusely illustrated with woodcuts, two folding charts of minerals and many other charming illustrations of equipment, echnoids, corals, crinoids, crystals, shark teeth, shells, geodes and basalt, sm. 8vo., (6.5" x 4") (168cm x 102cm), a very fine, clean and sound copy. Rare. See also de Laet, item no. 5702. An important 17th Century work on mineralogy and gemology in which is gathered most of the previous knowledge on mineralogy and lapidary.

Collation: 3A-3L8, 3M4, LACKING leaf 3C1, interleaved. Bound in a later 17th-century sombre binding of black morocco tooled in blind with a background cottage-roof design of hatched and parallel lines and tooled on top with large tulip tools and rolls of small flowers and sprays, rebacked with calf spine, later endpapers, bookplate of Francis North, Baron of Guilford, 1703, on verso of title-page, near contemporary manuscript notes on one interleaf, some wear to extremities, title-page creased, very good. Darlow & Moule 395; ESTC S91020 . A 17th-century English sombre binding on a Scottish printing of the New Testament. This New Testment is often found as part of the complete Bible, published by Young with a 1637 date on the title page (ESTC S90544). Young was the first to print the King James Bible in Scotland in 1633

      Paris, Melchior Tavernier, Pierre Mariette et al., 1636-78. Folio. (45 x 32,5 cm.). Bound in a 19th Century hcalf with title on spine in gilt lettering: "N. Sanson - Atlas - 1641". Maps varying sizes Ca. (38-43 cm.) x (50-53 cm.). With 67 fine engraved maps, 40 by N. Sanson and G. Sanson, 8 by De la Rue, 7 by Duval, 10 by Tavernier (done by Sanson), 2 by Philippus Briet (Chez Pierre Mariette, Henri le Roy fecit, and Michel van Lochom). The first 22 fully coloured !!, the last 45 outline coloured. Map 42-45 by Tavernier with 2 small inkspots on verso which are seen in the middle of the maps in one case creating a small whole in the image. The last map with 2 small repairs in upper margin, not affecting image. Otherwise the maps are clean and fine, all in contemporary handcolouring.. This is a fine composite atlas by the engravers of the French 17th century school. Most of the 67 maps are by Nicolas Sanson and his son Guillaume Sanson (40 + 10, as the Tavernier-maps are done by Sanson).Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667) is generally thought of as the father of the 17th century school of map-making, maps which are known for their charm and elegance in the fine lettering and delicate engraving. Sanson published an atlas of France, world atlasses and another atlas with the title "Cartes Générales de toutes les Parties du Monde (1658), containing 82 maps. After his death, the firm was run by his sons Guillaume and Adrian. After 1670 the firm's map-making material was taken over by Herbert Jaillot. Pierre Duval (1618-1683), here represented with 7 maps, was geographer to the King of France and pupil of Sanson.Content: 1.
