BIBBIA GRECA
Lugd. Batavorum, ex officina Elzeviriorum, 1633. In 12mo. [xvi] 861 [35] pp. Frontespizio in rosso e nero. Although the preface to the second Elzevier edition of the Greek Testament (Leiden 1633) was written by Daniel Heinsius, Jeremias Hoelzlin was the editor of its Greek text. Willems 396: "Des trois editions du Nouveau Testament grec donnes par les Elzevier de Leyde, en 1624, 1633 et 1641, celle-ci est la plus belle et la plus recherchee."    [Attributes: Hard Cover]

germanu: 1633 Small Folio Martin Luther German Bible lots of illustrations Description This is a bit of a quandary as it lacks the general title page and last the page or two of Revelation at the end as it ends at Revelation 19:21 The New Testament does not have a title page however it does bear 2 dates one in Psalms in the preface as 1633 however it does have a title page before Isaiah dated 1622.The print style matches throughout and the collation is consistent with the numbered pages The first part starts at page 1 and ends on page 277 followed by the dated title page of 1622 with 324 pages present possibly out of 326 with the last part of Revelation missing and any tables though not sure it had any. This is also known as an Elector Bible as at the front are woodcuts of some of them and also Martin Luther though edges torn and some part of the pages are missing. The Bible text is very good and solid and very browned with hand written notes,it has been rebound at some point though one of the boards is split down the length of the spine but is still solid. The Bible measures approx. 13 by 8 inches and is about 3 inches thick Otherwise a nice example with lots of illustrations throughout Payment Payment Options:Paypal Shipping Shipping Options:Domestic shipping: Weight based Shipping Charges. BRIGGS, Henry [GELLIBRAND, Henry]
Gouda: Pieter Rammazeyn, 1633. First edition of the first complete set of tables of sines, tangents, secants and their logarithms. This is a historically important copy presented by Gellibrand (1597-1636), who completed the work after Briggs' death in 1630, to the English astronomer John Bainbridge (1582-1643), noted particularly for his work on comets. It was later owned by the Yorkshire mathematician and astronomer Abraham Sharpe (1653-1742), and has his numerous, detailed mathematical annotations throughout the text and the tables (often very extensive). Sharpe served as assistant to the Astronomer Royal John Flamsteed and edited the latter's 'Historia coelestis' (1712). It is probable that Sharpe used this copy of the Trigonometria in computing the tables in Flamsteed's work. Briggs (1561-1630) was a key figure in early English science, being at the centre of a group that included William Gilbert, Edward Wright, Thomas Blundeville, Aaron Rathborne, Mark Ridley, Robert Hues, Hackluyt, and John Pell among others. Briggs was perhaps the first person, after their inventor John Napier, to realise the importance of logarithms, and following visits to Napier in 1615 and 1616 convinced him to use base 10 (Napier had originally used as base 1/e, where e is the base of 'natural logarithms'). In 1617, shortly after Napier's death, Briggs published 'Logarithmorum Chilias Prima,' which contained the first table of base 10 logarithms (of numbers from 1 to 1,000). For the next several years, Briggs devoted himself to the time-consuming and laborious task of constructing a larger table … [Click Below for Full Description]

CAT. HUELLA. This is a bit of a quandary as it lacks the general title page and last the page or two of Revelation at the end as it ends at Revelation 19:21 The New Testament does not have a title page however it does bear 2 dates one in Psalms in the preface as 1633 however it does have a title page before Isaiah dated 1622.The print style matches throughout and the collation is consistent with the numbered pages The first part starts at page 1 and ends on page 277 followed by the dated title page of 1622 with 324 pages present possibly out of 326 with the last part of Revelation missing and any tables though not sure it had any. Henry Hondius | [John Smith]
Amsterdam: Henricus Hondius, 1633. An early and classic copper-engraved map of Virginia from a 1633 Atlas of Henrici Hondius. This map is derivative 5 of John Smith's 1612 map of Virginia, which was the first printed map of the Chesapeake Bay and the first to assign names to topographical features. The publication history is complex: first published by Smith, then with a plate engraved by Henrici Hondius' father, Jodocus; at his death copper plate was bought by Blaeu of Amsterdam. Infuriated, Henrici engaged engravers to cut new plates for his own Atlas, including the Nova Virginiae Tabula. the plates were purchased by Blaeu who of course changed the imprint. Henry engaged engravers to cut new plates for his own atlas, which was issued in roughly 37 editions over 33 years. The Nova Virginiae Tabula was the most widely circulated map representing the Virginia and the New World in the 17th century, and had an enormous impact: "Because of their longevity and commercial success, the Hondius and Blaeu maps afforded more people a picture of Virginia than ever saw Smith's original version. Here, Virginia comes across as attractive, well wooded, sparsely settled, and -- from the coat of arms -- English" [William Wooldridge. Mapping Virginia: From the Age of Exploration to the Civil War, Map 31]. ~"Because of their longevity and commercial success, the Hondius and Blaue maps afforded more people a picture of Virginia than ever saw Smith's original version. Here, Virginia comes across as attractive, well wooded, sparsely settled, and -- from the coat of arms -- English" [Willi … [Click Below for Full Description]
