germanu: 1633 Small Folio Martin Luther German Bible lots of illustrations Description This is a bit of a quandary as it lacks the general title page and last the page or two of Revelation at the end as it ends at Revelation 19:21 The New Testament does not have a title page however it does bear 2 dates one in Psalms in the preface as 1633 however it does have a title page before Isaiah dated 1622.The print style matches throughout and the collation is consistent with the numbered pages The first part starts at page 1 and ends on page 277 followed by the dated title page of 1622 with 324 pages present possibly out of 326 with the last part of Revelation missing and any tables though not sure it had any. This is also known as an Elector Bible as at the front are woodcuts of some of them and also Martin Luther though edges torn and some part of the pages are missing. The Bible text is very good and solid and very browned with hand written notes,it has been rebound at some point though one of the boards is split down the length of the spine but is still solid. The Bible measures approx. 13 by 8 inches and is about 3 inches thick Otherwise a nice example with lots of illustrations throughout Payment Payment Options:Paypal Shipping Shipping Options:Domestic shipping: Weight based Shipping Charges. Henry Hondius | [John Smith]
Amsterdam: Henricus Hondius, 1633. An early and classic copper-engraved map of Virginia from a 1633 Atlas of Henrici Hondius. This map is derivative 5 of John Smith's 1612 map of Virginia, which was the first printed map of the Chesapeake Bay and the first to assign names to topographical features. The publication history is complex: first published by Smith, then with a plate engraved by Henrici Hondius' father, Jodocus; at his death copper plate was bought by Blaeu of Amsterdam. Infuriated, Henrici engaged engravers to cut new plates for his own Atlas, including the Nova Virginiae Tabula. the plates were purchased by Blaeu who of course changed the imprint. Henry engaged engravers to cut new plates for his own atlas, which was issued in roughly 37 editions over 33 years. The Nova Virginiae Tabula was the most widely circulated map representing the Virginia and the New World in the 17th century, and had an enormous impact: "Because of their longevity and commercial success, the Hondius and Blaeu maps afforded more people a picture of Virginia than ever saw Smith's original version. Here, Virginia comes across as attractive, well wooded, sparsely settled, and -- from the coat of arms -- English" [William Wooldridge. Mapping Virginia: From the Age of Exploration to the Civil War, Map 31]. ~"Because of their longevity and commercial success, the Hondius and Blaue maps afforded more people a picture of Virginia than ever saw Smith's original version. Here, Virginia comes across as attractive, well wooded, sparsely settled, and -- from the coat of arms -- English" [Willi … [Click Below for Full Description]

Vi è pure la descrizione topografica del Vesuvio, la storia dei suoi incendi prima del 1631 che si portano al numero di 12, e si discorre con le dottrine Aristoteliche dell'origine degl'incendi vulcanici e dei tremuoti”. London: 1633. JUVENILIA: OR CERTAINE PARADOXES AND PROBLEMES. LONDON: PRINTED BY E[LIZABETH]. P[URSLOWE]. FOR HENRY SEYLE, AND ARE TO BE SOLD AT THE SIGNE OF THE TYGERS HEAD, IN SAINT PAULS CHURCHYARD, 1633. 4to (7 1/4 x 5 3/8 in.; 185 x 136 mm). Woodcut printer's device on title-page copied from the Estiennes (McKerrow 311), a profusion of wood- and metal-cut initials and woodcut and typographic head- and tailpieces, with initial blank A1; a bit of marginal darkening. Top spine torn (see photos). Very pleasing copy. First edition, with licenses to print on both F1v and H4v. "Donne's Juvenilia are clever and entertaining trifles, most of which were probably written before 1600 during the more wanton period of the author's life. His own opinion of them was expressed in a letter to Sir Henry Wooton in 1600: ... 'they were made rather to deceave tyme than her daughter truth'" (Keynes). Although these Paradoxes and Problemes were widely circulated in manuscript, their secular, if not vulgar, character prevented them from being published during the author's lifetime. The catalogue of the Grolier Club's quatrocentenary exhibition of Donne mentions that while copies of both the first and second editions of Juvenilia are frequently found bound with the 1633 edition of Donne's Poems, "copies bound separately in contemporary bindings are rare.". Amsterdam: 1633. The Geneva version in quarto with Tomson's New Testament and with Junius Revelation. This is in most respects a reprint of the previous quarto Geneva Bibles in roman type but the title pages are unique and new and Junius Revelation here displaces Tomson's version of that book. From this point forward Junius version appears in most of the folios and all subsequent roman letter quarto bibles. A very attractive and exceptionally clean and antique styesolid copy of this Elizabethan Geneva Breeches bible rarely found complete in its entirety. This copy is lightly browned throughout with minor marks and blemishes. Two leaves with minor loss. The Bible remains found in its original period binding of full contemporary paneled calf. It has recently been rebacked in antique style with old calf relaid to the original boards. Henry Hondius
Amsterdam: Henricus Hondius. Copper-engraved map, an early and classic representation of Virginia from a 1633 Atlas of Henrici Hondius. ~~The Nova Virginiae Tabula was the most widely circulated map representing Virginia and the New World in the 17th century, and had an enormous impact: "Because of their longevity and commercial success, the Hondius and Blaeu maps afforded more people a picture of Virginia than ever saw Smith's original version. Here, Virginia comes across as attractive, well wooded, sparsely settled, and -- from the coat of arms -- English" [William Wooldridge. Mapping Virginia: From the Age of Exploration to the Civil War, Map 31]. ~ ~One the more important maps of the New World ever published -- with its mostly accurate description of the Bay and it's rivers, the names of rivers, the identification of settlements, the inset illustration of Powhatan's lodge, and to the right the full length Indian who is turni … [Click Below for Full Description]
