Fine engraved map of the world surrounded by vignettes of planets, the elements, the seasons, and the seven wonders of the ancient world, all with original hand-colour in full. A LANDMARK MAP OF THE WORLD BY THE MOST CELEBRATED MAPMAKER OF THE 17TH CENTURY Using Mercator's projection and first issued in 1606, this fine map remained in active circulation, for over 50 years. It is celebrated as one of the supreme examples of the mapmaker's art and in this issue, the fourth, was published in his "Atlas" from 1630 onwards. Showing both "Beach" and New Guinea as peninsulas of the great south land Terra Australis. The most striking characteristics of Blaeu's map are the superb border decorations. Marchio tipografico al frontespizio bicromo, bellissimi finalini xilografici. Graziosa legatura settecentesca in mezza pelle; dorso a 5 nervi con titoli e ricchi fregi dorati agli scomparti. Tagli rossi. Antiche firme di possesso al frontespizio. Minime tracce d'uso alla legatura, fioriture sparse dovute alla qualità della carta e macchiette, qualche lieve alone, peraltro esemplare nel complesso in buono stato di conservazione. Guy Pape (1402 ca.-1475), celebre giureconsulto francese, ottenne la laurea a Pavia nel 1430; ritornò di seguito in Francia, a Lione e poi a Grenoble, divenendo membro del consiglio del Delfinato. Le Decisiones Grationopolitanae si riferiscono appunto a quest'esperienza professionale: ebbero enorme circolazione e divennero ben presto fonte di primaria per la tradizione giuspolitica cinque-seicentesca. Description: Source unknown, to be determined.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Frederick de Wit' after 'Bernard Schotanus a Sterringa'. Frederick de Wit [1629-1706 was known as a map publisher, engraver and seller. He worked in Amsterdam from the Kalverstraat (‘bij den Dam inde dry Crabben) to 1654 and then from ‘in de Witte paskaert from 1655 to 1706. He produced a prodigious amount of cartographic material including separate terrestrial maps and sea charts, sea and terrestrial atlases, wall maps, and town views. Many of his maps were superbly colored by master Dutch colourists of his day such as Dirck van Santen. De Wit also acquired numerous copperplates from those auctioned by the Blaeu and Janssonius publishing houses sometime after 1674 and republished these works, often with his imprint added. L'autore fu in collaborazione con il cognato Henricus Hondius, il più importante concorrente dei Blaeu a cui ispirò ed uniformò la produzione, tanto da costringere Blaeu, anch'egli Jansson di cognome, a scegliere uno pseudonimo per differenziare la propria produzione. Buon esemplare con piccolo strappo e leggero ingiallimento uniforme della carta.

Floriani (1584-1638) wurde - nachdem er in Spanien, Algerien, Oesterreich, Ungarn, Prag und Bratislava als Offizier und Militairingenieur tätig war - 1634 von Papst Urban VIII 1634 nach Malta gesandt, wo er am Bau der Festungsanlagen beteiligt war. Edition originale avec page de titre renouvelée à la date de 1630. Elle reproduit celle de 1628 mais avec un éditeur différent. Ce récit, donné par le secrétaire de Savary de Brèves, Jacques du Castel, est celui de leur voyage effectué en 1605, de Constantinople vers la France en passant par la Palestine, la Grèce et l'Afrique du Nord. Suivent le texte du traité d'alliance franco-turc de 1604 ainsi que trois mémoires consacrés aux relations de la France avec l'Empire Ottoman. Diplomate, François Savary de Brèves (1560-1628) fut ambassadeur roi Henri IV auprès de la Sublime Porte de 1592 à 1605. En 1597 et 1604, il signa des traités qui confortèrent les privilèges des Français face à leurs concurrents anglais et vénitiens. Il parvint aussi à faire inscrire dans ces textes, pour la première fois, la protection que le roi prétendait exercer sur Jérusalem et la Terre Sainte.Surtout, Savary de Brèves s'illustrera comme un passeur entre Orient et Occident. Il avait appris le turc, envisagé la création d'une école d'interprètes et surtout rassemblé une collection de manuscrits turcs et persans aujourd'hui à la BnF. Elle avait déjà été publiée en 1599 et, comme celle-ci, notre édition est dédiée à J.A. De Thou. Exemplaire aux armes de Leonor d'Etampes-Valençay, né au château de Valencay en 1585, mort à Paris en 1651. Il fut abbé de Bourgueil-en-Vallée, puis évêque de Chartres et de Reims. Tache rousse dans la moitié inférieure d'une grande partie du volume. Traces d'usure à la reliure.
