Kessel, Jan van
. 11, 8 x 17,6 cm, Tadell. Preis in CHF: 15400. Jan van Kessel (1626 in Antwerp - 1679 in idem) was a Flemish painter of still lifes, who was the father of another painter with the same name Jan van Kessel, and Jan Brueghel the Elder's grandson. He was the son of Hieronymus van Kessel and Paschasia Brueghel, and was a pupil of his father and his uncle Jan Brueghel the Younger. He became a member of the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke in 1644 as "blomschilder" (flower painter). He was influenced by Daniel Seghers. According to Houbraken, he was famous in his lifetime for the neatness of his flower paintings and Cornelis de Bie wrote a poem about him.He specialized in small-scale pictures of subjects gleaned from the natural world such as floral still lifes and allegorical series showing animal kingdoms, the four elements, the senses, or the parts of the world. Obsessed with picturesque detail, van Kessel worked from nature and used illustrated scientific texts as sources for filling his pictures with objects represented with almost scientific accuracy.Jan van Kessel painted many animals (especially insects) and flowers, as well as some mythological and biblical scenes. his choice of subject leaned towards those which included animals and plants. His pupils were his sons Jan and Ferdinand van Kessel.[1]

RICCARDI (Nicolo).
in Genova, per Giuseppe Pavoni, 1626. - 2 parties en 1 volume in-folio. 2ff. 429pp. et 23ff. 483pp. Reliure ancienne, plats refaits. [Click Below for Full Description]

Collijn Sveriges bibliografi 1600-talet 954.

BOLOGNA, metà del XVII secoloIncisione originale eseguita all' acquaforte su matrice di rame, in basso a sinistra indicazione dell' autore. Raffinato paesaggio animato inscritto entro tondo tipografico. Esemplare in buone condizioni conservative.

V.2; [2] h. b., 992 p., [14] p, [2] h. b.; V.3 : [3] h. b. 480 p., [80] p. GUACCIUM FRANCISCUM MARIAM.
Ex Collegii Ambrosiani Typ. 1626 In 8°, m. pelle no coeva, pp. 391 + 39 inc. xilografiche (7,5 x 6 cm) raffiguranti Satana, nei suoi molteplici aspetti, con i suoi adepti ed alcune scene di malefici. Front. su ricca e pregevole inc. Testata. Capilettera. Tagli spruzzati blu, piatti marmorizzati.

SCHEINER, Christoph
Engraved allegorical frontis., fine engraved port. of the Duke of Bracciano, engraved vignette on title, & very many finely engraved illus. in the text (some full-page) depicting the author's observations of sunspots and the telescopes used by him. 20 p.l. (incl. frontis.), 784 pp., one blank leaf, [36] pp. Large thick folio (390 x 267 mm.), cont. vellum over boards (some wear to extremities, joint cracked but strong, light browning & occasional minor marginal dampstaining). Bracciano: [Privately Printed by] A. Phaeus, 1626-30. First edition, and a remarkable large and thick paper copy, of Scheiner's greatest work; this magnificent book, which is today very rare on the market, is the most richly and superbly illustrated astronomy book published in the first half of the 17th century. It describes and depicts Scheiner's observations of sunspots and his telescopes. We have never seen a large and thick paper copy of this book before; it is simply gigantic when compared to a normal copy (which usually measures about 348 x 240 mm.). In 1611, Scheiner constructed a telescope with which he began to make astronomical observations, and in March of that year, he detected the presence of spots on the sun. Scheiner's claim to the discovery of sun spots, independently of Galileo, was the origin of one of the most famous and heated controversies in the history of science. This book contains the summation of Scheiner's observations of the sun. He confirmed his method and criticized Galileo for failing to mention the inclination of the axis of rotation to the plane of th … [Click Below for Full Description]
