In diesem Jahr trat Kurfürst Maximilian IV. [Click Below for Full Description]

SOLER (Francesc).
En Barcelona, en casa de Llorens Déu, 1620. - in-4. (1f.blanc). 54ff. [Click Below for Full Description]

Six leaves are by a different hand (a pupil?), some other leaves have additions by yet an other hand. The studies of figues or riders are of a type that we see everywhere in the prints of Flamen and his guiding light Jacques Callot, whose work he must have known intimately. He is best known for his prints and drawings of animals, but did also works in other genres. Several albums of his drawings on a single theme are known and at least three other diverse sketchbooks such as this have also survived (amongst which a sketchbook in the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett ). After his release he retired to St. Albans where he spent a year writing "A defensative.". This work is a learned attack on judicial astrology, dedicated to Walsingham and perhaps suggested by the astrological exploits of Richard Harvey (writer of: "An astrological discourse upon the the great and notable conjunction of two superior planets.1583"). Soon after its publication the book was accused of "seeming heresies and treason" and Howard was sent to the Fleet for several months. This edition printed six years after his death is described on the title page as newly revised and is divided into thirty six chapters. Northampton dispels the authority of dreams, oracles, revelations, invocations of spirits "or any other kind of pretended knowledge whats … [Click Below for Full Description]

CAMPANELLA, Tommaso.
demonstratur, Mundum esse Dei vivam statuam, beneque cognosentem. Omnesque illius partes....e fere omnium Naturae arcanorum rationes aperiuntur. Tobias Adami recensuit, et nunc primum evulgavit. Francofurti, apud Egenolphum Emmelium, impensis Godefridi. in-4 (mm 220x155), pp.(16), 372 (ultima bianca), leg. di poco post. m. pelle marmorizz. (cerniera anter. restaurata). Firpo n.7. Yates 381-82. Caillet 1984. Between 1585 and 1588 he lived in London, where he met the geographer Richard Hakluyt and began to collect stories and illustrations of various European explorations, most notably from Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues.Depiction of Spanish atrocities in the New World, as recounted by Bartolome de las Casas in Narratio Regionum indicarum per Hispanos Quosdam devastatarum verissima. In 1588, Theodorus and his family moved permanently to Frankfurt-am-Main, where he became citizen and began to plan his first publications. The most famous one is known as Les Grands Voyages, i.e., The Great Travels, or The Discovery of America. He also published the largely identical India Orientalis-series, as well as many other illustrated works on a wide range of subjects. His books were published in Latin, and were also translated into German, English and French to reach a wider reading public.

Bibliografia: Motta, p. 3; Arrigoni-Bertarelli, n. 1023; Colombo-Rondanini-GRSD, p. 16 e p. 19; Cremonini 1991, p. 19, n.15. Aliprandi, vol. II, p. 216.
