BEAUVAIS
[Click Below for Full Description]

Rotterdam plattegrond - Guicciardini, ca. 1617

KRAMER (INSTITORIS), Heinrich.
Adams S1617; USTC 673245; VD16 M399; cf. Caillet 7057 (other issue); Coumont, Demonology and witchcraft 14.25 & 14.26; for the author: W. Tschacher, "Kramer, Heinrich (Henricus Institoris)", in: Lex. zur Geschichte der Hexenverfolgung. The rarer of two issues of the 1588 edition (the third Frankfurt edition), in the original Latin, of the most detailed and most notorious witch-hunter's manual, whose title translates as Witch hammer. It was written by Heinrich Kramer (ca. 1430-1505), also known by his Latin name Institoris, a Dominican priest and papal inquisitor in Austria, Alsace, Bohemia, Moravia and German-speaking Swtzerland. The first edition appeared at Speyer in 1487 and the book went through about 40 Latin editions to 1698 plus translations into several languages, fuelling the violent, unjust and cruel persecution of supposed witches in Europe and America for more than two centuries. Kramer himself boasted in 1491 that he had presided over the identification, trial and execution of two hundred witches, but that is a tiny fraction of those executed under his influence. Kramer wrote the book in the wake of his own failed witch trails in Innsbruck, where the local Bishop rejected his arguments and condemned his methods. In his book he commands an arsenal of rhetorical techniques, legal precedents, scriptural justification and alleged examples to convince the world that witchcraft was not only real but an imminent danger in society and to justify torture, burning at the stake and other actions. Although witch trials were nothing new, they had mostly been local matters r … [Click Below for Full Description]

Amsterdam, Korenbeurs - naar Adolph van der Laan
[Click Below for Full Description]

CALLOT Iacopo
1617. XVIII secolo.. Piccolo album oblungo (mm. 88 x 143), cartonato muto settecentesco. [Click Below for Full Description]

This stunning panorama of Krakow, Poland, is a view from the south, looking north across the Vistula River. 14 prominent buildings are noted. Georg Braun (1541-1622) was a Catholic cleric who edited the "Civitates orbis terrarum," a collection of 546 prospects, bird's-eye views and maps of international cities. London 1617: Robert Barker, 1617. CONDITION: THERE IS A STORY BEHIND EVERY BLEMISH! Bible leaf collectors know that some leaves are hard to look at and others look as new as the day they left the printing press. The condition of a particular leaf reflects its history and is not an indication of its actual value. Perfect leaves are ones that have seen little or no use over the centuries in contrast to those that are scarred by the ravages of time. Unblemished leaves are unloved leaves because they have had little contact with sinners. Imperfect leaves tell a story. Some are torn and ripped and worn away by excessive use while others have burns or worm holes and still others are water stained by flood and sometimes even tears. Each ugly mark or stain is in fact a beautiful witness to the Word of God, which, "liveth and abideth forever." We offer Bible leaves as we acquire them letting their condition speak for themselves. All our leaves are sold as seen on eBay. Contact us for additional images or information. Choice Leaves, Finer than Gold, from the Word of God Taste and see! It's sweeter than honey!!
