"The Â"Novelas EjemplaresÂ" (Exemplary Novels) Published Only One Year After the First, and During Cervantes' Lifetime". SUPERB COPY of the fourth edition of CervantesÂ' Novelas Ejemplares (Exemplary Novels), printed only one year after the first. Follow the text of the prince edition, suppressing the sonnet of Mexía to the readers. Comprises the twelve novels in this order: La Gitanilla, el amante liberal, Rinconete y Cortadillo, la Española Inglesa, el Licenciado Vidriera, La fuerza de la Sangre, el Celoso Extremeño, La Ilustre Fregona, las Dos Doncellas, la Señora Cornelia, el Casamiento Engañoso, y el Coloquio entre Cipión and Berganca. The "Exemplary Novels" are a series of short novels that Cervantes wrote between 1590 and 1612, and published for the first time in 1613 by Juan de la Cuesta, the same editor of Don Quixote. Such was the success that in less than a year four editions were published, this being the fourth, with Cervantes still alive. The reason why he called it "Exemplary Novels" was due to the didactic and moral character that the texts include. Cervantes mentiones in the prologue that he was the first to write novels in Spanish, not translated, of foreign languages, especially Italian. "And these are my own, not imitated or stolen, my genius engendered them, and my pen gave birth to them, and they are growing in the arms of the printing press". VARIN (Jean Philippe).
95100 VARIN (Jean Philippe). [Click Below for Full Description]

JOHN LILBURNE (1614 – 29 August 1657), also known as Freeborn John, was an English political Leveller before, during and after the English Civil Wars 1642–1650. He coined the term "freeborn rights", defining them as rights with which every human being is born, as opposed to rights bestowed by government or human law. In his early life he was a Puritan, though towards the end of his life he became a Quaker. His works have been cited in opinions by the United States Supreme Court. WILLIAM WOLWYN [WALWYN] (bap. 1600–1681) was an English pamphleteer, a Leveller and a medical practitioner. Walwyn was a silkman in London who took the parliamentary side in the English Civil War. He advocated religious toleration and emerged as a leader of the Levellers in 1647 which led to his imprisonment in 1649. During 1646 he wrote five pamphlets in response to Thomas Edwards' Gangraena in which Walwyn was described as "a Seeker, a dangerous man, a strong head". In 1649, whilst held in the Tower of London on a charge of Treason, he published "The Fountain of Slaunder Discovered" and "Walwyns Just Defence" to defend his character against the publication of "Walwyn's Wiles". Engraving, circa 1614, signed on plate at white borderline at lower left. Example in the only known state. Magnificent proof, exquisitely coloured by contemporary hand, on contemporary laid paper, "coat of arms with fleur-de-lis" watermark, with margins, usual trace of central vertical fold, in excellent conditions. This print derives from a subject by painter Gilles de Hondecoeter (1580-1638) and is edited by Nicolas Visscher. The excellent colouring quality distinguishes this print from the proofs in black-and-white. Wurzbach 3, Hollstein (Londerseel) 14, Hollestein (da Hondecoeter) 3
