Birminghamd: John Baskerville, 1611. This massive folio bible is the first King James version bible to have standardized to a more modern spelling, so... it is closer to a first edition of the modern KJV bible than the original 1611 bible was. Weighs in at over 12 pounds. Typically, when you can find it, this book gets listed for sale at around $9-10,000. If you want it, let's make a deal. It has a 1769 Old Testament, plus the Apocrypha, plus a 1771 New Testament (which is the typical combination for this book). This book has a few nice illuminations/engravings. Covers are both still attached, but held just by the ropes/cords. The cords still seem viable, but I never want to pull on covers to know for sure. One of the cords for the back cover might be broken.. Pages are surprisingly good for a bible this old, but there is the typical wear and browning/aging. First page is the OT. title page, which is 40-50% detached. There was probably at least a blank page in there that is missing originally, but not sure. Some writing on the front inside and title page. Black marks on the first page of Genesis. The last blank page is fairly frayed. SEVERAL BOOK WORM TRAILS through several pages ONE OF THE COVERS appears to have had black ink or shoe-polish or something used to try and darken what was probably an imperfection or tear/etc. There is also what looks like a black ink spill? between a couple of the pages (see pictures). See pictures and ask questions please.

London: Robert Barker, 1611. THERE IS A STORY BEHIND EVERY BLEMISH! Bible leaf collectors know that some leaves are hard to look at and others look as new as the day they left the printing press. The condition of a particular leaf reflects its history and is not an indication of its actual value. Perfect leaves are ones that have seen little or no use over the centuries in contrast to those that are scarred by the ravages of time. Unblemished leaves are unloved leaves because they have had little contact with sinners. Imperfect leaves tell a story. Some are torn and ripped and worn away by excessive use while others have burns or worm holes and still others are water stained by flood and sometimes even tears. Each ugly mark or stain is in fact a beautiful witness to the Word of God, which, "liveth and abideth forever." We offer Bible leaves as we acquire them letting their condition speak for themselves. All our leaves are sold as seen on eBay. You may request additional images and information for any leaf. Choice Leaves, Finer than Gold, from the Word of God Taste and see! It's sweeter than honey!! ( 1542 - 1621) was an Italian Jesuit and a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was one of the most important figures in the Counter-Reformation. He was canonized in 1930 and named a Doctor of the Church. Bellarmine is also widely remembered for his role in the Galileo affair. Bellarmine was canonized by Pope Pius XI, the following year he was declared a Doctor of the Church. His remains, in a cardinal's red robes, are displayed behind glass under a side altar in the Church of Saint Ignatius, the chapel of the Roman College, next to the body of his student, St. Aloysius Gonzaga, as he himself had wished. In the General Roman Calendar Saint Robert Bellarmine's feast day is on 17 September, the day of his death; but some continue to use pre-1969 calendars, in which for 37 years his feast day was on 13 May. The rank assigned to his feast has been "double" (1932-1959), "third-class feast" (1960-1968), and since the 1969 revision "mem … [Click Below for Full Description]

ESCOMAN (Jacqueline de Voyer, dite d').
S.l.n.d. (c.1611). in-8. 23pp. [Attributes: First Edition]

Etching, 1611 circa, signed lower right: 'Palma' and inscribed with publisher's address lower left: 'Jacobus Franco formis con Priuilegio'. Only state. Excellent example, printed on contemporary laid paper. wide margins, occasional light foxing in the margins, generally very good condition. The scene depicts Delilah seated on a tree trunk at right, in profile to left, cutting the sleeping Samson's hair. judge Samson sleeps in the lap of his Philistine lover Delilah, who shears a lock of hair from his head to drain his superhuman strength. The subject is from the Old Testament Book of Judges (16: 17-20) The plate was one of 26 etchings after Palma’s design published in 1611 by Giac … [Click Below for Full Description]

Robert Barker, London, 1611. First edition, first issue of the King James Bible; the Great King James "He" Bible which contains the erroneous phrase "and he went into the citie" in Ruth 3:15, which has been corrected to ".she went." in all subsequent printings of the Bible. Folio, bound in full early calf with decorative blindstamped borders, brass corner plates and centerpieces, brass clasps and catch plates with rebacked straps, raised bands to the spine, contemporary endpapers, with the title page. In very good condition, with three leaves (title page, first preliminary and final leaf of text) supplied in facsimile. Exceptionally rare and desirable, scarcely seen on the market. One of the most influential texts in the English language, Thomas Macaulay anointed it "a book, which if everything else in our language should perish, would alone suffice to show the whole extent of its beauty and power" (PMM 114). The official project of translating the text was undertaken by nearly 50 scholars over the span of seven years, between 1604 to 1611, yet is truly the culmination of nearly a century of work, beginning with William Tyndale's New Testament translations, and including the bibles of Coverdale and Whitchurch, the Bishops' Bible, the Geneva Bible, and the Rheims New Testament. "Appointed to be read in Churches," the Great "He" Bible was exposed to public usage (on lecterns) and almost all surviving copies have suffered some manner of damage or loss. (ESTC S122347; Herbert 309; Pforzheimer 61; PMM 114). [Attributes: First Edition]
