Andrea ANDREANI (Mantova 1546 - 1623)
The triumph of the Christian hero, who fights against the deadly sins in the lower right, and is received by Christ in heaven in the upper half. Woodcut, 1610. After a subject by Battista Franco, whose monogram can be seen on lower centre. Beautiful work, printed on contemporary laid paper without watermark, with full marginal line, in excellent condition. Lettereded bottom right 'Superiorum premisum' Example without the dedication on lower part. Andrea Andreani was one of the main artists who better expressed the art of chiaroscuro, for he was also a publisher, as some Rossiglini's works show (they bear his monogram). Ex collezione Federico Augusto II di Sassonia (Lugt 971). Bartsch XII.136.14.

Raphael SADELER I (Anversa 1560 circa - Venezia 1628 circa)
"Bulino, 1610 circa, firmato in lastra in basso a destra "Raphael Sadler f. et excud". "Engraving, 1610 ca. Signed in lower corners of impression: ""Gillis Coingnet inuentor."" and ""Raphael Sadler f. et excud."". Lettered in Latin in lower part of impression, written on a stone block: ""Sine Cerere et Baccho / friget Venus."". After a lost painting by Gillis Coignet. A good example, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed close to marginal line, small foxing, otherwise very good condition. This engraving is after a lost paintin … [Click Below for Full Description]

LIPSIUS, Justus.
Twelve of Lipsius's most important works, mostly on the ancient Roman world (antiquities, customs, military history and technology, and philosophy), together with his famous Qui ad principatum maximè spectant (Mirror of princes) and in volume 3 his letters. Christoffel Plantin's son-in-law Jan Moretus, who took over his great Antwerp printing and publishing office, published all twelve editions before Lipsius's death. Items 3 and 7 are first editions, and nearly all these works were first published by Plantin or Moretus. They were uniformly bound in blind-tooled pigskin, probably for a Praemonstratensian monastery near Ravensburg ca. 1610. Justus Lipsius (1547-1606) was one of the leading classical scholars and humanists of the Low Countries in the second half of the 16th century. The first four works are nicely illustrated with engravings by Theodore Galle, Pieter van der Borcht and others.Volume 1 with a few mostly marginal wormholes through most of the volume, but more serious in the last few and especially the first few leaves, but otherwise in good condition, with an occasional minor wormhole in volume 2, and some browning and occasional minor stains in volume 3. The bindings are somewhat rubbed with wormholes in volume 1, but also still generally good, with most of the tooling clearly preserved, the binding structure sound, and only a couple worm holes in volumes 2 and 3, one clasp lacking. The spine of volume 3 was probably covered with paper, later removed but leaving traces of paste. Antwerp, 1604.-De … [Click Below for Full Description]

ROSACCIO LUIGI
Firenze, 1610. Rare separately published map of the World by Luigi Rosaccio, after the of the largest World Map of his father Giuseppe Rosaccio (1597, Bifolco-Ronca n. 31)."This curiously elaborate world map is to be found in a speculative world geography by Giuseppe Rosaccio. The right-hand hemisphere is surrounded by bands denoting the climates; the left-hand one by lively windheads and celestial constellations. In the centre cusp is a dyspeptic portrait of the young Duke Cosimo II de Medici, and in the spandels are circular representations of the four elements. The lower part of the engraving consists of a neatly engraved Ptolemaic map of the world and a set of spherical diagrams showing the zones, meridians, and geographical features" Rodney Shirley notes. The map was engraved by Giuseppe's relative Alovisio Rosaccio and is very scarce. This is an example of the second state, with a beard added to the portrait of de Medici.Without data, the map is printed in Florence, where the Rosaccio family was transferred after the Venetian period, on 28 November 1606, obtaining the privilege of printing for their works - see Casali, Il "Teatro "del mondo. GR (ca 1530-1620) tra Firenze e Bologna, in L'Europa divisa e i nuovi mondi. Per Adriano Prosperi, II, a cura di M. Donattini - G. Marcocci - S. Pastore, Pisa 2011, p. 56.Aloisio, Aluigio, Alovigi or probably Luigi Rosaccio, son of the cosmographer Giuseppe Rosaccio, was trained in Florence, perhaps with Antonio Tempesta, at the Medici court. Since the early nineties, Giuseppe Rosaccio settled in Florence, where on 13 July 1594 joi … [Click Below for Full Description]

This edition has a fascinating printing history, as it was actually issued some fifty years after the date stated to the title page. Illustrated,Leather Binding Overall Condition: Good This book weighs 1.5 KG when packed UK Postage: £ 3.99 US Postage: £ 23.99 EU Postage: £ 18.99 European Postage: £ 19.99 Asia Postage: £ 31.99 Worldwide Postage: £ 32.99 DESCRIPTION A scarce printing, with very few available copies with the plain half-titles between each section. In a smart half morocco binding. In Italian. This copy matches Ebert's first of the five printings of this work he references. It was established by Gamba that this work was published in Geneva rather than Rome as previously thought by the likes of Brunet. The printing location was established using the paper and printing style. The main title page for this work (though lacking in this copy) is dated 1550 and the consensus is that this copy, and the four others under this imprint were actually printed later. The British Library Short-title Catalogue of Italian Books Printed in Italy 1465-1600 suggests that this work was actually published 1610, 1620 or 1640. According to Ebert, this is the 1st of the five printings of this work published in Geneva. It It has half-t … [Click Below for Full Description]
