, 1604 "Complete. Rare. Very good condition. Very, very slight browning or foxing. Pages in surprisingly impressive condition. Folio format (large). Beautiful, tooled modern leather. Gorgeous binding. Can't find another early edition currently for sale."Extremely rare. "Martin Del Rio is now known as one of the leading demonologists of the early-modern era. Martin Delrio's Disquisitionum Magicarum Libri Sex first appeared in three volumes in Leuven in 1599 and 1600. It quickly became extraordinarily popular." (Wikipedia)"The most important, interesting, and comprehensive discussions of the occult sciences ever published. It deals not only with magic in all its forms, from the manipulation of angelic and demonic powers to straightforward conjuring and illusion, but also with witchcraft, alchemy, astrology, divination, prophecy, and possession by evil spirits. Nothing so panoramic had ever appeared before, and for the next one hundred and fifty years Disquisitionum Magicarum was the indispensable reference work on the subject." (Amazon)"The Disquisitionum Magicarum is THE 17th century manual of witch-hunting. It is the longest and most complete treatise ever written on the subject, embracing theoretical demonology to practical torture to get confessions and going through diverse occult subjects such as alchemy or divination. This is one of the best editions. With a beautiful engraved title. Text framed, on two columns. In a word, a massive and beautiful book that would make a perfect addition to any serious collection on witchcraft." ( … [Click Below for Full Description]

TOMBAUGH, CLYDE
1604. Tombaugh draws the diameters of Earth and Mars to illustrate the planets' comparative sizes. Earth's diameter is 7900 miles against Mars diameter of 4215 miles. On his Mars diagram, Tombaugh draws what would seem to be his understanding of the pitted Martian surface. His observations of Mars led him to conclude that Mars had been hit by asteroids causing observable craters due to the planet's proximity to the asteroid belt. The Mariner 4 space probe affirmed his hypotheses. The astronomer best known for identifying Pluto has signed, "Clyde W . Tombaugh" in a bold hand. A fine, visually instructive illustration. The asteroid 1604 Tombaugh discovered in 1931 is named after him. He discovered 14 asteroids, beginning with 2839 Annette in 1929, mostly as a byproduct of his search for Pluto and his further searches for other celestial objects.

Ad 1: First edition of a work on God's creation of Earth, by the well-known Portuguese rabbi, writer and printer Menasseh Ben Israel (1604-1657), who established the first Jewish printing office in the Netherlands. The work presents 30 questions, or "problems", concerning God's creation of the Earth, which Menasseh tries to answer and explain, citing or referring to passages of the Tenach. Problems include "on which day were demons created?" and "was there another world or earth before God created this one?". The preliminaries including an important poem by Caspar Barlaeus, which caused the Amsterdam authorities to consider the reintroduction of censorship for Jewish publications. As this didn't happen, Barlaeus's poem can be seen as an indicator of the relationship between Jews and Christians, and the religious tolerance in Amsterdam during the Golden Age.Ad 2: First edition of a work on the resurrection of the dead by the same author. The work is divided into three "books" and opens with several dedicatory letters, an index of the chapters, and 3 laudatory poems.
[Click Below for Full Description]

Chrysostomus
Bell'esemplare, fresco e a buoni margini. Dióne Crisostomo. Letterato greco (n. [Click Below for Full Description]
