Teschen: 1592. Bitte schauen Sie in meine detaillierte Beschreibung, Vielen Dank! Please look to my detailed description! Thank you! Anno 1592:Sensationelle Handschrift! Museumsstück historischer Linguistik !!!!!!! Festpreis nur 2810,- Euro. Sie können mir auch ein Angebot unterbreiten. Offers welcome! [Click Below for Full Description]

CLOPPENBURGH, Johannes.
[6], [2 blank], 423 [= 432] pp.First and only edition of this translation into Dutch of the fiercely anti-Socianian work by Johannes Cloppenburch (1592-1652), published in the year he died. The translation is based on his Compendiolum Socinianismi, printed a year before in Franeker. Cloppenburgh extensively discusses the history and rise of Socianism and deals at length with the refutation of its religious doctrines. Few minor defects. [COELHO, Gaspar? and others].
“114” [= 214], [2 blank] pp.One of three 1592 editions, following the first edition published at Rome in 1591, of one long and eight short letters written from 1588 to 1590 by Jesuit missionaries in Japan, reporting on the extremely confusing political and religious situation there and elsewhere in Asia. Six of the letters primarily concern Japan, two China and one the East Indies. The kampaku (imperial regent) Toyotomi Hideyoshi (ca. 1536-1598), the de facto ruler of Japan, officially banished Christianity from Japan in 1587, but active persecutions were just beginning in the first few years and the anti-Christian legislation was not yet generally enforced, giving the Jesuits a fairly free hand to continue their activities. The present reports were written from Arima (Kobe), Omura, Firando/Hirado and Goto (Nagasaki), Amakusa (Kumamoto), Bungo/Hoshu (Kyushu) , Meaco/Kyoto, and Yamaguchi. The Portuguese Jesuit missionary Gaspar Coelho (1531-1590) wrote the longest and one of the shorter letters. Though one of the most astute observers of political activities in Japan, he proved naïve in his interpretation of them. Other writers and sources cited for information include Luis Fróis, Antonio d'Almeyda, Duarte de Sande, Egidio della Matta and Franciscus Pires.Title-page slightly dirty, and with an occasional minor spot or stain, but still in good condition. The vellum is wrinkled but the binding is also good. An important source for 16th-century Asia and especially for Asian relations with the Jesuits.l Cordier, Japonica, col. 116; Cordier, Sinica I, col. 796; cf. LUNA, Miguel de.
[24], 485, [4], [3 blank] pp.First edition of the second French translation of a history of the conquest of Spain by the Moors, detailing events from 712 to 761 CE, a description of Spain during the same period, and a biography of Almanzor (ca. 938-1002), the Islamic ruler of the Iberian Peninsula at that time. "This was a false chronicle, halfway between a history and a novel of chivalry, supposedly translated from an Arabic manuscript by a (fictitious) historian called Tarif Abentarique that Luna had found in El Escorial" (García-Arenal & Mediano). In the account, first published in 1592, the Iberian Peninsula is saved by the Arab newcomers from a state of evil and corruption under the Visigoth rulers. Luna's account is a defence of Arab culture in Spain, independently of the religion of Islam and particularly defending the Arabic language. "His writings attempt to reimagine the origins and history of Christianity in the Peninsula such that its inhabitants of Arab origin may be seen as "natural" or "native" ...; therefore they cannot be expelled as alien invaders ..., but rather, and above all, may aspire to honors and privileges" (García-Arenal & Mediano).Miguel de Luna (ca. 1550-1615) was a Spanish physician of Arabic descent, who also published a treatise on bathing. Known for his knowledge of Arabic, he worked as a translator for King Philip II of Spain and the Spanish Inquisition. With owner's inscriptions on the back of the first fly-leaf and the title-page. Binding lightly worn at the extremities; with a few spots; a good copy.l Brunet I, cols. 16-17; García-Arenal … [Click Below for Full Description]

FABRICI, Girolamo (Hieronymus FABRICIUS).
Pentateuchos cheirurgicum.Frankfurt am Main, [Zacharias Palthenius for] Peter Fischer, 1592. 8vo. With Palthenius's woodcut device on title-page. Contemporary limp sheepskin parchment. [16], 554, [6] pp. Rare Fischer issue of the first edition of the surgical works of the surgeon, physician and professor of anatomy at the University of Padua, Girolamo Fabrici (1537-1619), his first published work, edited by his student Johann Hartman Beyer, who also contributed a seven-page preface. The book is divided into five numbered "libri" covering tumors, wounds, ulcers and fistulas, fractures and dislocations respectively, still influenced by the classic works of Hippocrates and Galen. Beyer apparently published these surgical works based on his notes of Fabrici's lectures and without his permission, and Fabrici was not pleased, but he tacitly acknowledged them with the publication of an addendum in 1619, the year of his death. In 1594 Fabrici also built the University of Padua's anatomical theatre, which still survives. He studied under Gabriele Falloppio and published his own work on foetal development and especially the placenta in 1600. The English anatomist William Harvey came to Padua and studied under Fabrici, whose 1603 publication describing the valves of veins influenced Harvey's seminal work on blood circulation. Fabrici was also a celebrated surgeon, treating many Italian noblemen, including Carlo de' Medici, grandson, son and brother of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany. With an early owner's name R. Erard on the title-page and a later owner's name at the head. With some margin … [Click Below for Full Description]

Reyneke Vosz de olde, nye gedrucket, mit sidlykem vorstande unde schonen Figuren, erlüchtet unde vorbetert.(Colophon: Rostock, Stephan Mölleman for Laurentz Albrechts, in Lübeck), 1592. Small 4to (20 x 16 cm). With letterpress title-page printed in red and black in an illustrated woodcut border (partly coloured by an early hand), 53 small woodcut costume-figures and 44 large woodcut illustrations in text. Blind-tooled vellum (dated 1603), with central oval ornament and the letters "MEL" and "IPR" and the year "16 ... 03". "273" [= 272] ll. Rostock-Lübeck edition of the fabulous animal epic Reynard the Fox. The Reynard stories were already established as a coherent collection in the 12th century and were first printed in 1479, in a Dutch prose edition. The numerous versions of the Reynard text show a great deal of variation, but the Dutch tradition, starting with the highly regarded and very original adaptation by Willem (author of Madoc), is the most dominant. The main story takes place in the court of a lion king, where all the other animal subjects complain to the monarch about Reynard's trickery, which leaves room for each animal to tell a story about the fox, his wits, cunning and criminal behaviour. The stories satirize nobility, clergy and peasants alike, not shunning scatological humour. The book, in German verse, is adorned with a large number of small woodcuts of male and female costumes, of noblemen and -women, monks, beggars, merchants, soldiers, etc., often repeated. The large woodcut illustrations were made after those in the first Rostock edition of 1539, inclu … [Click Below for Full Description]

''It is the first strictly botanical book with intaglio prints'' (Blunt). As a child Colonna suffered from epileptic seizures and started to study Greek and Latin authors, determined to find in one of their works a remedy for his illness. Through his studies he became a botanist and wrote several works on this subject. The "Phytobasanos" (plant touchstone) set out to improve the knowledge of the plants listed by Dioscorides and other classical authors. Lettere del Giapone, et della Cina de gl'anni M.D.LXXXIX. & M.D.XC. Milan, Pacifico Pontio, 1592. Small 8vo (16 x 10.5 cm). With a woodcut Jesuit device on the title-page. Re-cased in later vellum. "114" [= 214], [2 blank] pp. One of three 1592 editions, following the first edition published at Rome in 1591, of one long and eight short letters written from 1588 to 1590 by Jesuit missionaries in Japan, reporting on the extremely confusing political and religious situation there and elsewhere in Asia. 1592. Woodcut IHS device on title page. 2 parts. 8vo (155 x 95mm.) [8], 383pp; [8], 325pp. Contemporary German blind-stamped pigskin with roll-tooled borders of medallion heads and foliage, both original clasps intact, spine backed with marbled paper and label in the 18th century. Ingolstadt: D. Sartorius, 1592. A handsome copy. Part 1 includes speeches on literature and funeral speeche, while the four books of Carmina in the second part are followed by the texts of the religious dramas (in verse) Ergastus and Philotimus which were performed before the distribution of prizes in the gymnasium of the Jesuit College in Rome in November 1587 and January 1590 respectively, and printed at the time. The author Benci (1542-94) had originally the forename Plauto, which he changed on becoming a Jesuit in 1571. Originally from Acquapendente, he studied and taught in Rome for many years, and was in correspondence with many scholars of the time, such as Marc Antoine Muret (who in a letter of 31 August 1567 urged him not to buy an imperfect book and to read Cicero daily), at whose funeral he preached:part 1 (pp. 219- 235) prints Benci's oration delivered at Muret's funeral, the second part (pp. 139-145) containing also an elegy on his death. Importantly benci for a number of years edited the Jesuit Litterae annuae, and wrote a poem on Jesuit martyrs in the missions, Quinque martyres published first in Venice in 1591. His separate works were originally printed in Italy (see Censimento 16), but as he states in his dedication to Carddinal Ascanio Colonna, dated 30 September 1590 from Rome, … [Click Below for Full Description]
