Annibale CARRACCI (Bologna 1560 - Roma 1609)
[Click Below for Full Description]

Jan Harmensz MULLER (Amsterdam 1571 - 1628)
Bulino, 1591 circa, firmato in basso a sinistra B.' Sprangers inuentor/ JMuller sculptor.; in basso a destra Harman Muller excud. /Amsterodami.
[Click Below for Full Description]

PORCACCHI, Tommaso
Venetia: Appresso gli heredi di Simon Galignani, 1591. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. Tommaso Porcacchi was a 16th-century Italian scholar who is known primarily for his landmark work on funeral customs and practices. First published in 1574, "Funerali Antichi di Diversi Popoli" is often considered the best and certainly the most interesting of books on funeral rituals. Porcacchi covers rituals and practices of several ancient civilizations including the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Jews, Indians, Turks, and Persian tribes. While the contents of this work are notable and accurate, the mark of this work is the inclusion of 25 fascinating illustrations by Girolamo Porro. These impressive engravings serve as the basis for the dialogue and text of this work and provide a fine, visual insight to the customs of ancient civilizations! Many of these illustrations show the horrors of human sacrifice, torture, and other forms of abuse.

Henry Smith was a 16th-century English preacher known for being one of the most important Puritan preachers in London during his lifetime - in fact, there were noted cases of wealthy church-goers bringing their own pews so they could have a place to sit to hear him speak. Curiously, his works were not published as a collection until his death in 1591; which, after their initial successes, were reprinted dozens of times over the next 25 years. This first edition of the collected works of Henry Smith features 15 of his most notable works including · 'A Preparative to Marriage' · 'A Treatise of the Lord's Supper' · 'The Examination of Usury in Two Sermons' · 'Three Prayers, One for Morning, another for Evening: the third for a sicke Man' · 'Seven Godly and Learned Sermons upon Seven divers Textes of Scripture' · 'The benefit of contentation Taken by characterie and examined after.' · 'The first sermon of Noahs drunkennes A glasse wherein all drunkards may behold their beastliness. Curiously, his works were not published as a collection until his death in 1591; which, after their initial successes, were reprinted dozens of times over the next 25 years. This first edition of the collected works of Henry Smith features 15 of his most notable works including· 'A Preparative to Marriage'· 'A Treatise of the Lord's Supper'· 'The Examination of Usury in Two Sermons'· 'Three Prayers, One for Morning, another for Evening: the third for a sicke Man'· 'Seven Godly and Learned Sermons upon Seven divers Textes of Scripture'· 'The benefit of contentation Taken by characterie and examined after.'· 'The first sermon of Noahs drunkennes A glasse wherein all drunkards may behold their beastliness.
[Click Below for Full Description]

SUETONIUS, Caius Tranquillus
Antverpiae: officina Plantiniana, apud viduam, & Ioannem Moretum, 1591. 1591 Suetonius Twelve Caesars Julius Caesar Caligula ROME Torrentius PLANTIN "Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system." ― Suetonius, 'The Twelve Caesars' Suetonius was a 1st-century Roman historian who is most remembered by his important set of biographies of twelve successive Roman rulers from Julius Caesar to Domitian. "The Lives of Twelve Caesars" or "De Vita Caesarum" is still considered one of the primary sources on Roman history and discusses important facets of the end of the Roman Republic."Twelve Caesars" covers the lives of Julius Caesar, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellus, Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian, and is the first work to offer insights to some of the lesser-known aspects of these important Roman figures - such as Julius Caesar's struggle with epilepsy. The extent of what is culturally known about Caligula comes almost exclusively from Suetonius - little else was written about the sadistic ruler. Suetonius says of Caligula's reign:"So much for the Emperor; the rest of this history must deal with the Monster."This incredibly rare and valuable 1591 printing of Suetonius features the commentary of Laevinus Torrentius and published by the famous Plantin Press. In addition to the title page portraits, this edition is filled with illustrated coins and medals throughout!Item number: #5641Price: $950SUETONIUS, Caius TranquillusC.
