Annunziata a Firenze. Opera molto rara. "Engraving, 1573, lettered at left 'Que genuit adoravit', and at right 'Andrea del Sarto Invent. 1573'. After the 'Madonna del Sacco' by Andrea del Sarto in SS. Annunziata, in Florence. Good example, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed close to platemark, occasional foxing, generally in very good condition. Attribued to G. B. de Cavalleris, this engraving is after the famous fresco known as "Madonna del Sacco", painted by Andrea del Sarto in 1520 in the SS. Annunziata church, in the great cloister, known as the ""Chiostro dei morti"", in Florence. On the right in the fresco reads 'Ann. Dom. MDXXV'. The scene illustrates the Rest during the Flight into Egypt, but The picture takes its curious name from the sack (sacco) on which St Joseph is leaning. Very rare print."

Gerard DE JODE (1509 - 1591)
- FIRST EDITIONS WITH CONTEMPORY COLOUR - Etching with engraving, before 1573, signed on plate in the title by Joannes and Lucas Doetecum. Antonio LAFRERI (Orgelet 1512 - Roma 1577)
Map depicting the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Loreto and including the territory between Recanati and the sea. The first edition of this series of maps purely devotional taste is due to Giovanni Battista Cavalieri, who engraved it in 1567, inspired by the hagiographic cycles carved on the marble facing of the Holy House, which was followed by other works derived from Origin and Translation of the Church of Santa Maria di Loreto. This plate must be by the workshop of Lafrery, and is dated to 1573. This example was published by Pietro de Nobili and Paolo Graziani, therefore, be dated to 1585/90 approximately. Magnificent example of this rare map, in excellent condition. Newberry Library, Novacco collection, 2F 120.

Orazio de SANTIS (Attivo a Roma 1568/84)
"Bulino, 1573, firmato e datato in lastra in basso a destra '1573 / Horatius Aquilanus formis'. In basso a sinistra 'Pompeo Aqlano inven'. "Engraving, 1573, lettered lower left 'Pompeo Aqlano inven' at right ' 1573 / Horatius Aquilanus formis'. After Pompeo dell'Aquila. A very good impression, printed on contemporary laid paper with ""anchor in a circle"" watermark, with very thin margins or trimmed to the paltemark, prefect condition. The devotional engraving depicts Peter and Paul, the patron saints of Rome, flanked by Roch or Rochus of Montpellier and Sebastian, protectors against the plague. Antonio LAFRERI (Orgelet 1512 - Roma 1577)
[Click Below for Full Description]

[Click Below for Full Description]

LOBWASSER, Ambrosius.
Very rare edition of the well-known German "Lobwasser Psalter", here published in the Netherlands (in the original German) and first published at Leipzig in 1573, including, with its own title-page but clearly published together, a hymnbook and catechism with translations, adaptations and texts by Martin Luther and Johannes Habermann (1516-1590).It is splendidly bound in contemporary Dutch richly gold-tooled red morocco. The binding uses 4 stamps (86/87, 106, 121 and 128) and 1 roll (XXXII) found in the stock of the so-called "Double Drawer Handle Bindery", active 1697-1742. The roll was later used by the so-called "Art Book Bindery" (III), active 1705-1741 and the "Houbraken Group" (III), active 1708-1721. This last used two more stamps that appear on the present binding (9 and 29), so the attribution remains uncertain, but since the two later binderies were not active until seven years after publication and the Drawer Handle Bindery is known for its bindings for the Wetstein firm, that association seems the most likely. This bindery is considered "the most important Amsterdam workshop of the eighteenth century" (Storm van Leeuwen). In very good condition, with only a few small spots or stains. Binding chipped along the extremities, most heavily at the head and foot of the spine, but otherwise good.STCN (1 copy); VD17 23:242578S (2 copies); WorldCat (5 copies, incl. 2 the same); for the bindery: Storm van Leeuwen, Dutch decorated bookbinding I, pp. 228-284, 332-347 and 360-363..

BAÏF (Jean Antoine de)
voir descriptif. BAÏF (Jean Antoine de). Les Passetems. Paris, Lucas Breyer, 1573. Petit in-12 (marg. [Click Below for Full Description]
