A vindication of the rights of woman: with strictures on political and moral subjects. ..... Vol.I. The third edition
London: J. Johnson. 1796. 8vo., xix + (1) + 452pp., recently bound in 18th century style half calf gilt by Trevor Lloyd of Ludlow. A fine copy. Windle A5g. First published in 1792, this may justifiably be described as the most famous work in the history of feminism. As PMM has it, it was 'a rational plea for a rational basis to the relation between the sexes'. This third edition reprints the second edition of 1792. There was, of course, no further volume published, which makes it odd that Johnson should continue with the fiction that there were more.
