Knoxville, 1795. Folio. Moderate wear, tape repair. Folio. Written to David Henley, Agent for the Department of War. "Pay to William Rickard pay master...to the troops [sic] in the territory aforesaid eleven hundred and two dollars sixty seven cents out of the money in your hands appropriated for the defensive protection of the frontiers for the pay of a company of mounted infantry commanded by Thomas Murray of the Regiment of Davidson County, from the eighth February to the twenty fourth February 1794..." The Territory South of the River Ohio, more commonly known as the Southwest Territory, was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from May 26, 1790, until June 1, 1796, when it was admitted to the Union as the State of Tennessee. Blount was the first and only Governor of the Southwest Territory.
