The Holy Bible, containing The Old Testament and The New Newly Translated out of the Original Tongues and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised by his Majestie's Special Command
London, 1708., 1708. Old Testament dated 1708, New Testament dated 1707 to the title pages. Believed to have been printed in Amsterdam. Bound in contemporary full dark brown Morocco with raised bands to spine, and blind tooling to the boards. Brass bosses fixed to the boards, two brass clasps spanning the fore edge. Frontispiece plate and five double page folding map plates, the maps by Joseph Moxon. Map plate one has two small closed tears along two of the creases at the bottom, map plate two has one small open tear at the bottom of the middle crease, map plate three has one small closed tear at the bottom of the middle crease, map plate four has one small closed tear to the bottom of the middle crease. Textblock is overall very clean with only a very occasional spotting, predominately to the margins. Slight browning of the textblock as is to be expected. The top and bottom portions of the spine have been expertly and sympathetically repaired. Some wear, rubbing, small gouging, and scoring to leather. A charming and imposing copy.
