It takes place in New England, however from the preface it is clear that the author lived in Japan at the time of publication and was remembering the dog of his New England days. A really scarce book because it was co-published by an English publisher a copy had, by law, to be held by the 3 English copyright libraries (Oxford, Cambridge, London) and the Edinburgh Scottish copyright library.
