Nuevo Tratado de Reduccion de Monedas, Efectivas, e Imaginarias, de Estos Reynos de España, A Reales de Vellon: ..
Madrid: Imprenta de D. Gabriel Ramirez, 1760. First edition. Softcover. Very good. 12mo. (10, of 14), 165pp. Contemporary flexible vellum, with two ties. With an old, slightly inaccurate, typewritten title page, and lacking the two following leaves (all provided in facsimile). Old ownership names of José Duaz Martinez (who also wrote his name on the upper board) and T. Duchmanli (?) of Cadiz. But most interesting are the final three pages filled with the writing of Pedro Blanco. who signed four times. One page is dated Cadizx, July 5, 1832; another also Cadiz but January 1831 (?), with the final two signatures undated. Pedro Blanco was a notorious Spanish slave trader based in Gallinas on the coast of Sierra Leone between 1822 and 1838. Contains tables for converting the various kinds of currency in use in Spain requiring something like this text in commerce. In 1808, coins were introduced denominated in real de vellón. These coins circulated alongside real de plata fuerte and escudo coins until decimalization. Coins denominated in reales de plata were minted until 1837, whilst maravedí coins were issued until 1850. This title rare. Only one copy located at the Biblioteca Nacional. In Spanish.
