Philadelphia and New York: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1945 - Octavo. Original green cloth, titles gilt to spine and front board, top edge dyed yellow, patterned endpapers. With the dust jacket and Newberry Award medal. Slight fading to spine ends, very mild rubbing to tips, faint toning to endpapers, a few trivial spots to edges, still an excellent copy in the somewhat chipped jacket with a few minor marks to rear panel. Black and white illustrations in the text throughou Third impression of the first edition of Lenski's Newberry Medal winning children's book (with the gold medal sticker to the jacket front panel), signed by Lenski on the half title, and bearing the illustrated book plate of Julia F. Carter, who was the first full time children's librarian at the New York Public Library. Miss Carter was also the first national president of the Division of Library Work with Children and Young People of the American Library Association.
