Sargaço Produções,, Rio de Janeiro: 1985 - 219 pp. Hors d'commerce. This 'outside business' special edition of a book and two long playing 33 1/3 records enclosed in a clamshell case. Produced on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Dorival Caymmi, his life and his work. Comprised of three elements: a book with its binding tight; boards clean; dust jacket with a 1 cm. closed tear; otherwise in fine condition. Two LPs in a pristine folding jacket; vinyl LPs mint. A clamshell box with corners bumped; lightly soiled; color photograph of Caymmi affixed to the clamshell cover with edges rubbed. The production was underwritten by the Fundação Emílio Odebrecht, a Brazilian multinational corporation. On his 70th birthday this is a biographic account of singer/composer Dorival Caymmi; a glossary and discography appear at the back. The LP has extensive liner notes in Portuguese and English by Jairo Severiano, plus testimonials by Jorge Amado, Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso and Carybé. The music on these two discs was recorded live at the Teatro Castro Alves, Salvador, by Caymmi in 1984?after 12 years of a recording absence. There are new and old compositions. Disc 1 is Caymmi solo with guitar?plus testimonials; disc 2 is Caymmi with a 15 piece orchestra arranged by his friend the pianist Radamés Gnattali. All lyrics are printed and all compositions are by Caymmi. A stunning homage to one of the foremost composers and balladeers of popular Brazilian music. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
