Original terracotta cloth stamped in gilt to spine and upper cover, decorated endpapers; pp. [xii] + 125 + mounted illustrations bound at the rear; with 50 mounted coloured plates by Rackham set on heavier stock and protected by tissue guards; an uncommonly fresh, and sharp, copy with only minor rubbing to joints, a weak lateral crease to head of spine, and a slight tide-mark to lower, and fore-edge, of book block (not intruding within), internally near fine with slight foxing, and a neat contemporary gift inscription, to half-title, dated 1907, otherwise pristine with none of the usual spotting to the text block and all plates fine. First edition of this children's classic, which appeared for the first time in print in this distinguished edition with coloured plates by the popular children's book illustrator Arthur Rackham.
