San Francisco: Whitton, Towne & Company. Good. 1857. First Edition. An exploration account written in letter form. Original brown cloth boards with gilt imprint have sunning and bumped and rubbed corners. Light soil on edges and endpapers. Light foxing and soil on a few pages. All plates present as called for, with toning on the illustrated half title leaf. The author made extensive observations throughout Arizona and Mexico. Graff 4616: "Contains considerable material about Arizona, including Washburn's trip from Fort Yuma up to Gila, to Tucson and back by way of Alter and Sonoita in 1856, travels in the Gadsden Purchase, the Tepic Conspiracy, copper mining, practicability of a railroad, American filibustering expedition, etc." Howes W 313, Graff 4616. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall; 438 pp .
