The silver medal.
Buffalo: Breed, Butler, & Co., 1863. Miniature (42 mm; 1.625"). 64 pp. The story that fills this miniature book is of a pre-teen girl who hopes to win the top prize of a silver medal in a composition competition; trials and tribulations ensue.    Binding: Original red cloth, elaborately stamped in gilt on front cover and spine (a bit faded on spine), and in blind on rear cover. All edges gilt.    Provenance: Miniature bookplate of Grace Broecker, a major collector of miniature books: a portion of her collection is now at the Huntington Library.         Welsh 4311. Very good copy.
