Methuen, 1925. 1st edition. Hardcover. Original boards, a little rubbed, with clean pages, in the very scarce cream dustjacket which has benefited from some restoration, is a little rubbed also, but now presents very well indeed. Colour frontispiece and 31 full-page drawings, each one opposite a small vignette, and a tail-piece. Wonderful military caricatures by the early 20th-century master of the genre. As Harry Graham puts it in his Introduction, 'We are grateful indeed to Mr Bateman who with so sure a touch, such masterly technique, so rich a humour, can keep the type alive, for it is to such Colonels that the Motherland will always look in her hour of need - nor look in vain'. A very nice example of a very scarce title.
