London - W Bowyer, W Strahan et al., 1771 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. The complete four volumes of The Rambler. The Eighth edition. The Rambler was a periodical by Samuel Johnson. It was published on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1750-1752 and totalled 208 articles. It was aimed at the newfound, rising 18th century Middle Class who sought social fluency within aristocratic social circles. The Rambler tends to focus more on moral rather than social issues. Samuel Johnson, or Dr Johnson, was an English writer. His lasting contributions to English literature include poems, essays, literary criticisms and more. Condition: In full calf bindings with gilt stamping to the spines. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the joints and spines, particularly to the head and tail. Small loss to the head and tail of spine to all volumes,worse to volume IV. Marks to boards and bumping to the extremities. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd spot throughout. Small loss to the title page of The Rambler at the gutter. Prior owner's notations to the rear pastedown of volumes III and IV. Overall: VERY GOOD..
