SONG.
Privately printed: Stockholm Christmas . 1943 - First edition. One of 22 copies printed on air-mail paper (of a total edition of 44). Signed by the author. Marbled card wrappers with white label printed in black to the upper cover. A fine copy. One of the author’s "butterfly books" produced in 1943 as a Christmas gift. This copy inscribed by the author in black ink on the colophon page "With love to both of you / from / Frederic". Further signed in blue ink at the conclusion of the poem at the bottom of page 3. (A previous owner’s pencil note to the front free endpaper suggests this was signed March, 26, 1952). The work of the poet, novelist, translator and publisher Frederic Prokosch, hailed as something completely new in modern literature, received effusive praise from T. S. Eliot, W. B. Yeats, Thomas Mann, Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham, Albert Camus and scores of other towering figures of 20th century literature.
