Handboek der Genees- en Verloskunde van het Vee.
R.J. Schierbeek, Groningen 1819 - 12mo: 32, 656, [vi], [plates] pp. Modern full buckram with blindstamped decorative device on the front. Two folding engraved plates in the rear, with a total of 50 figures. A very early Dutch manual of veterinary medicine. Numan initially translated a German handbook on the subject, but was invited by the "Maatschappij tot Nut van 't Algemeen" (Society for the Benefit of All) to expand and edit this into a separate and new publication, which resulted in the current work. Dr. Alexander Numan (Baflo 1780 - 1852 Utrecht) was a Dutch professor, schoolmaster, (veterinary) doctor and author. He is seen as the founder of Dutch veterinary medicine. The current was his main work, which was reprinted and published several times. Illustrated by: Derk Jacobs Postma (1787-1866). Condition: Good, given age. Faint dampstain in the top of the gutter margin of the first 60 pages, as well as in the lower right corner of the final 150 pages (also affecting both plates). Rebound in modern buckram, the bookblock probably slightly cropped at the same time. Lacks pp. 7-8 and anything before the title. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
