The Sensitive Plant
London: William Heinemann, circa 1911. Introduction by Edmund Gosse. Charles Robinson is best known for his children's and rhyme illustrations, characterised by boisterous characters confidently drawn with a certain eccentric flair. This edition of Shelley's exquisite shows the artist in a new light. The mounted plates are subdued in both form and tone, with ample use of watercolour wash to create a dreamy and gentle quality to the book that embraces the reader in suspended time. Quarto, original illustrated cloth, eighteen tipped colour plates (including frontispiece). The spine is rubbed, otherwise in very good order.
