TUCKER'S PEOPLE - INSCRIBED
New York: L.B. Fischer, 1943. First Edition. First Printing. A Very Good copy of the author's first novel, lacking the dustjacket. Spine panel slightly faded, moderate edgewear to the spine ends and corner tips, with the top foredge lightly soiled. Wolfert has inscribed this copy "For Sidney Cohen with best wishes, Ira Wolfert." Like Wolfert, Cohen was a native New Yorker, and a noted psychiatrist who reported the effects of LSD during the 1960's. Wolfert didn't sign much, which makes the association here all the more interesting. 'Tucker's People' is a novel Walter Rideout credits as "one of the most distinguished American novels of the whole forties," and basis for the sinister 1948 film noir directed by Abraham Polonsky. A key film noir source title, and one that is seldom encountered signed.
