The Thousand and One Nights, Commonly Called, in England, the Arabian Nights' Entertainments In Three Volumes
London: Charles Knight and Co., 1839. Very attractive 3 volume set, 1839-41, once owned by Rev. John A Yatman (1817-94) made notes and sketches of arches and other architectural details on the preliminary blanks of each volume. Full smooth tan calf leather with raised spine bands, red spine labels, gilt decorated compartments, marbled edges and endpapers, engraved titles and numerous engravings throughout the text. Light rubbing to the spine and extremities, joints rubbed but secure, some light speckling to the covers, surface crack to front joint which remains very secure, text blocks firm, foxing to endpapers and blank pages at beginning and end, pages clean, name of John A. Yatman with an 1840 date, in ink, in each volume, along with the pencil and ink notes and sketches on the preliminary blanks, and a presentation note dated 1858 to Anne V. Yatman, handwritten note laid into volume III: "consider requisite to be done"[?], yours very truly, Charkes Edwards. . Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
