The Life and Notable Adventures of that Renowned Knight Don Quixote De La Mancha
London: Printed for T. Norris and A. Bettesworth, 1712 The Third Edition in two volumes, printed for T. Norris and A. Bettesworth in London 1711-1712. Bound in full leather with raised bands to spine. Covers are scuffed and worn, especially at head and tail of spine panel and at corners. Hinges restored by a professional book binder. Bindings are square and solid. Some age toning and stains to preliminary pages that does not impinge on text. "Merrily translated into Hudibrastick verse," by Edward Ward. Volume 1: 75 pages. Volume II: 477 pp. Interior pages are clean with prior owner's name inked to the front free end paper of both volumes, with their initials at the top of the title page of the second volume. Interior pages are somewhat age toned along margins but otherwise clean and unmarked. Lacking the engraved frontispiece. ***A scarce copy of the Edward Ward (1667-1731) translation. He made this funny and sometimes rude translation, in octo-syllabic couplets, inspired by Butler's " Hudibras" - a moral and social satire written in imitation of Cervantes. Volume II includes: "Printed for T. Norris, and A. Bettesworth, J. Harding, J. Woodward, E. Curl and R. Gosling" at the bottom of the title page.
