Bret Harts Jinks Announcement.
Bohemian Club, San Francisco 1903 - First edition. Small bifolio (4 pages; with each page measuring 8 x 5 1/8 inches). Handsome Dixon illustration of a miner on the front in blue and brown, printed text inside. Small area of abrasion to upper left corner (but hard to discern). Very good and the only known copy. From the collection of noted Marnard Dixon scholar Donald Hagery and illustrated in his biography of Dixon (p. 72, The Life of Maynard Dixon). Hagerty in his research found that not even the Bohemian Club possessed a copy of this announcement. "Sometime early in 1903, Dixon received an invitation to join San Francisco's Bohemian Club. Founded in 1872 by newspaper publisher Daniel O'Connell and some other journalists, who enjoyed savoring life as much as work, the organization soon became not only the focus of San Francisco's journalistic profession but also the center for much of the city's literary and artistic life. Dixon's first effort on behalf of the Club was designing the announcement for the 1903 Bret Harte Jinks [offered here]."
