MAN RUNNING
London: Macdonald & Co., Ltd., 1948. First UK Edition. First Impression. Octavo; green cloth, with titles stamped in red on spine; dustjacket; 351pp. Neat previous owners name to front endpaper, a few small spots of discoloration to spine ends and upper rear board edge, with faint spotting to text edges and shallow, rough cut to lower edge of the middle signature; Very Good+. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced 9/6 net), rubbed at joints and edges, with light dustiness, a few small nicks and tears, and an old dampstain along front flap noticeable on verso only; Very Good or better. The author's sixteenth novel, originally serialized in Collier's magazine between August and September of 1947. Basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1950 film noir 'Stage Fright,' starring Marlene Dietrich, Jane Wyman and Richard Todd. A genuinely scarce title in the British Edition, and for a significant film source book, surprisingly underrepresented institutionally; OCLC finds 15 copies, of these, only 7 in American institutions. The Dark Page II, p.108.
