A Devotee: An Episode in the Life of a Butterfly
London: Edward Arnold. 1897. First. First edition. Octavo. pp. [1-9] 10-211 [212-224 (publisher's advertisements)]. Publisher's blue-grey cloth blocked on the front cover with a decorative design in black, lettered on the spine in gold. Author's presentation copy (to her brother?) inscribed on a paper slip neatly laid-down on the front free endpaper: "With Mary's Love, March 10th '97." Corners lightly bumped, a bright, fine copy. Both Sadleir and Wolff go out of their way to praise Cholmondeley and this work in particular. Sadleir: "She is an excellent example of the not-so-long-ago front-rank novelist, whose books in good condition are extraordinarily difficult to find." Wolf: "A very interesting story psychologically, Freudian case-history observed with clinical detachment." A beautiful presentation copy. Sadleir 549; Wolff 1211. .
