London: The Reader's Library, [1931]. First UK Photoplay Edition. First Printing, released the same year as the classic 1931 film directed by James Whale. Octavo; maroon cloth, with titling and decorative elements stamped in gilt on spine and front panel; dustjacket; 252pp, [2] ads. Light production crease to front pastedown, tanning to text edges, with the spine gilt a bit dulled; Very Good+, and clean throughout. Dustjacket is Near Fine - bright and complete with a few nicks at the corners, some trivial spotting to flap folds and a couple of tiny closed tears. An important photoplay edition, as it was the first to feature a photo of Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein moster on the jacket. Scarce in such presentable condition; the UK photoplay turns up far less frequently than its American counterpart.
