London: Constable Young Books, 1963. First British Edition. First Impression. Octavo; red paper-covered boards, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; 182pp. Thin strip of offset to endpapers, else Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced 13s 6d net), gently spine-sunned, with a 1cm closed tear to upper edge of rear panel; very Near Fine. Lovely copy of L'Engle's beloved children's classic, winner of the 1962 Newberry Medal, and counted among the most coveted children's books to win that award. The wraparound dustjacket art by Anthony Maitland notably different than that of the American edition, showing the three principal characters, Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin tessering with Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit. Though the Constable edition follows the American by one year, it is, in our experience, every bit as scarce.
