Autograph Quotation, signed ("Robert Frost"), a Fair Copy of a stanza from his Poem "A Lone Striker"
- A fine autograph quotation by Frost from "A Lone Striker", a poem based upon recollections of his early life, and a work from which extracts in the poet's hand are not often seen.Six lines, entirely in Frost's hand:"He knew another place, a wood,And in it, tall as trees, were cliffs; And if he stood on one of these,'Twould be among the tops of trees,Their upper branches round him wreathing,Their breathing mingled with his breathing ?"[signed:] Robert Frost"For Stuart W. Jackson"The succeeding line in the poem gives the decisive thrust: "If - if he stood! Enough of ifs!"The poem was published by Knopf in 1933 as one of the Knopf Borzoi Chap Books. Complete Poems, p. 356; cf. Thompson, Robert Frost, The Early Years, pp. 160-161 [Attributes: Signed Copy]
