Bound in original quarter dark green morocco over marbled boards, general title embellished in gilt, specific play titles on red title label to spines. Edges untrimmed. Internally clean, marbled endpapers. Minor scuffing here and there to some volumes, a little chipping of the marbled paper to extremtities, minor professional tail of spine repair to one volume. All binding sound, strong, bright and handsome. Bookplate of Thomas Sebastian Bazley to front pastedowns. A beautiful and imposing set. Packed to the gills with historical appendices, plates and engravings and a wealth of detail, this set is not only a complete works but also an encyclopaedia of Shakespeare. Described in Jaggard's Bibliography of Shakespeare as "The most extensive repository of literary, historical and archaeological information regarding Shakespeare and his writings to be found in any single work and typographically the most sumptuous edition...the largest form in which the bard has yet appeared."
