New England Gothic FIRST EDITION
Chilton Book Company, PA 1960 - Collectible copy, stated first edition on copyright page. Lilac colored cloth boards with sharp tips and barely bumped spine ends, no rubbing. Bit of age toning/spotting on backstrip cloth with a one inch darker rust colored mark in frt gutter cloth which is fainly visible as well on front pastedown along with some other micro foxing marks on pastedowns. Tidy name also on frt pastedn but is all but hidden under unclipped frt dj flap. 250 pp crisp and unmarked. No dog ears, just very light foxing on edge of page block. Illustrated dj shows color loss and light rubbing at extremities. Spine sunned but title still legible. 1/4 in chip at head of spine, 1/2 in chip at foot of spine, dj displays well in new mylar. A work of fiction which resembles a true murder,which occurred in Maine, USA that is still considered unsolved by many. In this Gothic tale played out in a small New England town, the tenderness of young love, the revelation and aftermath of an unnatural lust, and the brutal reality of violent death result in a trial that reveals the wellsprings of evil that may contaminate even the most preaceful village, the (nicest) people.
