London: Printed for A. Millar, 1729 - Octavo (195 x 118 mm). Near-contemporary panelled calf, titles to tan label to spine, gilt decoration to spine in compartments, edges speckled red. Slight rubbing to extremities, a couple of faint marks to boards; an excellent copy. First edition. This work is a supplement to what Boyer "regarded as his greatest work, The History of the Life and Reign of Queen Anne", published in 1722, and provides a history of the royal succession after Queen Anne's death in 1714 (ODNB). With the ownership inscription of the Greek historian William Mitford (1744–1827), to front free binder's blank. This copy additionally with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst to the front pastedown, heir to a successful chain of dispensing chemists, based in Nelson, Lancashire: "A collector of books, in a delightful room at his home, white-painted bookshelves stacked high on all the available wall space show to advantage the hand-tooled leather bindings of a collection that has been acquired slowly and with discrimination over the years" (The Chemist and Druggist, 7 September 1957).
