Chatto & Windus, London 1904 - A rare find and very unusual piece of exploration history. Artefact from the 1911 Australasian Antarctic Expedition (A.A.E). One of the books from the Mackellar library,which was donated to Douglas Mawson. Has Charles Mackellar's signature and annotation above the stamp of the A.A.E. on half title page. The book is the 1904 Chatto & Windus fine paper edition of 'London' by Walter Besant, blue cloth, 396pp plus ads. Later small ink scribble on fep. No other annotations, and the binding is still tight. Small worm track on top of rear board/endpaper. No other provenance, but it was know that the library was widely shared out to members of the expedition team by Mawson after returning to Australia. See pictures.
