Hurst and Blackett, London 1856 - John Halifax, Gentleman. By the author of “The Head of the Family”, “Olive” &c. &c. by Dinah Maria Craik (Mrs. Craik) nee Mulock, published anonymously. Very good, first edition, three volume set (triple-decker). In original light brown cloth with blind-stamped design on front panel and gilt text on spine. All volumes have been professionally restored and are housed in an impressive (very good) custom-made 3-drawer box. Vol I: 321 numbered pages plus 3 pages of ads. Previous owner’s name on ffep. Vol II: 331 numbered pages and 1 page of ads to verso of 331. The number "11274" has been stamped twice on the ffep. Previous owner’s name on title page. Vol III: 311 numbered pages, 1 blank, and 2 pages of ads. Wear to extremities. Edges are dust-toned/soiled. Smudges and foxing at margins of internal text.
