Top edge gilt, others heavily deckled, many of which are uncut. Two photogravure frontispieces, sixteen full-page & four double-page illustrations, 43 ornamental borders, 288 ornamental initials, headpieces as well as other decorations in the text. This is the "Superior Issue" on handmade paper which gives the plates a depth and sumptuousness unrivaled by any later editions. Tipped-in armorial bookplate of Paul Hyde Bonner to pastedowns; image transfer passim. TOGETHER WITH: Morte dArthur Portfolio. Reproductions of Eleven Designs omitted from the First Edition of Le Morte dArthur.... Includes also the drawings made for the fascicule covers and an enlarged copy of the striking Merlin drawing. Quarter calf over bevel-edged vellum boards; top edge gilt, others deckled. This 1927 limited edition of only 300 copies (of which this is number 240) was issued (according to the publisher) so the buyers of the first edition need not buy the inferior (2nd) edition to have all of Beardsley's illustrations. ; 4to 254x294 mm; 4 Vol pages .
