Half-leather red morocco binding with marbled paper; gilt & brown debossed design on spine; top edge gilt; marbled endpapers; red silk ribbon placemark. Striking color illustrations by Serge de Solomko. Frontispiece plus 8 full-page full-color plates; numerous color drawings in the text. Limited/numbered edition of 1000 copies, hand-numbered #107 with initials "F.F.", publisher F. Ferroud, ((impr. de P. Renouard). Rene Keiffer (1876-1963), famed bookbinder's label at top of blank fly -- "Rene Kieffer, Reliures d'Art, 18 rue Seguier, Paris". In Very Good to Near Fine condition, bright and clean with very modest wear to extremities. Tightly bound with sound hinges. Light toning to page edges. Text and illustrations quite clean and bright. Free of previous owner names or markings. Only four copies listed in worldcat holdings (two within the U.S.). Emile Gebhart (1839-1908), noted Renaissance scholar, professor of Southern European Literature at the Sorbonne, and prolific writer. Serge (Sergei) de Solomko, Russian artist (1867-1928). .
