The Century Company, New York 1908 - Good: covers worn and spine chipped, but magazine intact. London explains how this story evolved from the earlier tale of the same title which apppeared in The Youth's Companion for May 29, 1902. This , most famous of all Jack London short stories, was written during the Snark voyage. Century paid $300 for it. The famous opening to Build a Fire "Day had broken cold and gray, exceedingly cold and gray", London used virtually the same words in several of his novels. --from Dale L.
