Pascoal da Sylva, Lisboa 1716 - Rare and only edition of this account of the Siege of Corfu by the Portuguese cavalry officer J.F. de Monterroio Mascarenhas, who also served as newspaper editor the periodical Gazeta de Lisboa. In 1716 the Ottomans occupied the island of Lefkada and the fort of Butrinto opposite the city of Corfu. On 8 July an Ottoman army landed on the Ionian island of Corfu. The town was defended by Count Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg. He withstood several assaults and caused the besiegers to withdraw on 20 August (cf.
